literature at the Adlershof site
If your regular work office or lab is on the Adlershof site there are additional arrangements for your access to literature. You can acess all ressources of the HZB main library and its department branches if you so wish but owing to the distance to Wannsee you may also use the services of IGAFA - the Initiativgemeinschaft Außeruniversitärer Forschungseinrichtungen in Adlershof e.V. (initiative of extra-university research institutions at Adlershof) - and the Adlershof Erwin Schrödinger Centre and notably the services of the science branch of the HU library which is located in the Schrödinger Centre.

If you want to discuss, at your office or in some group meeting, access to literature at HZB, copyright law or Open Access you may contact us and arrange a meeting with some library staff member.
Services by the HZB library and the IGAFA
Books, reports and print journals from the stock of the HZB library are accessible via the web OPAC (catalogue) and our web pages. You can pick up whatever you want to take out at the main library or, if you are positioned at Adlershof, have your order delivered to your office. Equally our other services are offered to everyone in HZB no matter whether you are on the Wannsee or the Adlershof site - with the notable exception of direct online access to journals and data bases.
Online access to full texts of journals and to data bases on the Adlershof site is possible
- in institute E-I1 in some cases through the same licences which hold on the Wannsee site
- in institute E-I1 in other cases and at BESSY in all cases through licences which have been negotiated by IGAFA
- in addition in the Erwin Schrödinger Centre through licences negotiated by Humboldt university.
This situation has developed over time - for details see here. In many cases it is of little concern as scientists on both sites find access to most important journals and data bases which the actually need. In some cases however scientists may find that they have access to more journals on the Adlershof site.
department libraries at the Adlershof site
The department libraries of institute E-I1 and of the units in the BESSY building, two out of four HZB department libraries within the HZB library system, allow ready access to some selection of important literature close to where scientists work. The stock of these department libraries, like in the case of the other department libraries, can be searched in the HZB web catalogue.
The regulations of take-out of books from the department libraries are a matter of the department, the mechanism for taking out books from the BESSY department library is explained here. Please note that in the web OPAC there is no indication whether a book from a department library has been taken out or whether the department is prepared to lend the book to someone outside its department.
electronic services of IGAFA
In case your office is on the Adlershof site you may want to explore the IGAFA virtual library. You can access full texts of journal articles from a search in the directory of all electronic journals on our pages. You can also use the search function in the IGAFA lists, the search within the stock or the IGAFA selection matrix.

the Erwin Schrödinger Centre
The Erwin Schrödinger Centre, Rudower Chaussee 26, is home to the science branch of the HU library. Opening hours are Mo - Fr 9 am - 8 pm and Sa 11 am - 6 pm.
In order to use online services inthe library or to take out books you need to be a registered user. Please contact the information desk. For registering, you need you personal ID card or else passport and your institute's ID. Books which you have taken out need to be returned within 4 weeks, extensions are possible.
