Innovation is also the process of sharing and exploiting our research and development results by third party.
We focus on linking research and economics closly. With the technology transfer the HZB meets its obligations of sharing the results of its work to the public. The transfer of knowlege and technological know-how is oriented on the requirements of the economy. Hereby innovations should be activeted to make the development of new marketable products and processes possible. Operator Centre Microtechnology (AZM)

The AZM team assists the activities of our industrial partners in every single phase of a micro structure process setup. We have special experience in the X-ray lithography including X-ray mask technology. Due to the excellent characteristics of synchrotron light it is the ideal source for X-ray lithography. Even ultra thick (> 500 µm) resist layers can be patterned successfully with high resolution in the sub-micrometer range.Thus, X-ray lithography is best qualified for the production of microstructures with high aspect ratio micro structures (HARMS). more

NIXE - Application Centre for Industry

NIXE operates a set of procedures for analysis and treatment of modern materials and technical construction units that are only available at very complex large-scale research instituts like the HZB. Particularly for industry enterprises we offer the possibility to use our methods. Our offer addresses small and medium-size enterprises equally, which are concerned with research and development. more

Macromolecular Crystallography

Three independent beamlines with State-of-the-art technologies enable efficient data acquisition with excellent quality. The infrastructure adjacent to the experimental end stations offers excellent facilities for users of the beamlines and includes office space, a sample preparation lab and computing resources. And of course, the competent BESSY-MX crew including their newest member - a robot - will assist you before and during your beamtime. Besides the standard procedure we offer Mail-in Crystallography as a full service option. more

Kobalt-60 Quelle

For irradiations with γ-rays, e.g. for material testing or applications in medicine or food industry, HZB operates a cobalt-60 source. Cobalt-60 (⁶⁰Co) is a radioactive isotope which is generated by the irradiation of natural cobalt-59 with neutrons. The Cobalt-60 decays in nickel-60 by emitting β- and γ-rays. In our set-up the β-rays are absorbed by a steal shielding. The γ-rays are used for irradiations and have an energy of 1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV. These energies are too small for nuclear reactions. more
