Services and servers
For a number of tasks workstations alone are not suitable, for example because the computational speed or storage space is too small, the needed programs are not installed locally, the data must be managed centrally or there are special demands on the safety and availability of data and services.
For this reason, central servers are offered. They can be used by all users with an HZB ID. From all servers you can access the data in your home home directory, the group directories or othe directories in the HZB-wide file system (directories on other computers or the HZB clipboard). With access to the iFolder directories you have access from anywhere in the world wide web.
Popular applications are available both for Windows users running Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS and Windows PCs on the Windows Application Farm.
For computationally intensive applications such as modeling, we offer the high performance computing cluster dirac.
For interactive data analysis and for other special applications there are central Linux servers.
As a service we provide network access with the eduroam federation.
Back office servers assist with their services to all users need, but they are not accessible for interactive use.
On centrally operated systems important services will be offered:
- Data in home directories and group directories can be accessed on the intranet from any computer.
- From anywhere (even outside) can use the PC client or Web browser files stored on the iFolder directories, deployed, managed and used.
- With the network-wide clipboard, you can offer files in HZB intranet briefly, but without having to install any software.
- With the web application upload you can share files worldwide and secured.
- Against data loss locally or on servers protects the central data storage facility.
- Upon request we provide directories for archiving data, which can be filled from any computer on the intranet.
- For storing structured data, we will develop an individual database application on request.
- Presentations and representations can be developed for you on our multimedia workstation.
- For on the communication with remote participants, you can use our videoconference facilities at both locations.
- With a browser you can use Adobe Connect Pro for web conferencing, and use common programs within.
