You have to identify yourself for some HZB web services. For that purpose an ID (aka web password) is used. This ID is twofold: your HZB e-mail address (eg. john.doe@helmholtz-berlin.de) and you personal web password (web account).
The web password will be requested in a browser window and remains vaild until you terminate the browser. All intranet applications which use these credentials will always use a secure connection with the HTTPS protocol. The password is sent encrypted over the network.
Hint: @helmholtz-berlin.de may be omitted.
By using the HZB web password you are entitled for access to intranet web content and services offered by the HZB from any external computer with internet access. You just have to connect with https://www.helmholz-berlin.de/ (remind the little s, this means the communication is encrypted with SSL). This works in the intranet, too.
The initial web password was automatically created and sent to you by e-mail during the creation process of your HZB account.
External users without an HZB account may apply for a web password online.
You may apply a new one or change the current web password at any time online.
