Freie Universität Berlin is one of nine universities successful in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additionally funding for its institutional future development strategy.
Founded in 1948 with international support, Freie Universität Berlin established strong connections to organizations and personalities in Germany, Europe and all around the world. More than 130 partnerships with research institutes, visiting scientists of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Foundation and 600 foreign scientists contribute to a broad spectrum in research and subjects, which put Freie Universität Berlin in a leading research institution.
Being a full university with 15 departments and central institutes the university offers more than 100 programs in all subjects. Of approximately 31,000 students 16 percent come from abroad.
