The work of our group is aimed at the development of chemical methods for the deposition of inorganic thin films, and new materials, mainly for chalcopyrite-based solar cells. At the centre of interest are Ion Layer Gas Reaction (ILGAR) -method developed and patented at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin- and Spray-pyrolysis. Both are non-vacuum thin film deposition techniques.
In addition, we are involved in numerous German and European projects whose aims are twofold; on one hand, the fundamental understanding of the materials grown and their role in the corresponding devices and on the other hand, the synergy with industrial partners to up-scale the process from laboratory scale to larger sizes (30x30cm² and beyond).
