ZnO Nanodevices

Quasi-one-dimensional semiconductor structures, e.g., nanowires or nanorods, contain fewer defects than corresponding thin-film structures. Therefore, structuring functional materials at the nanoscale is beneficial for various electronic and optoelectronic applications. ZnO has band-gap of ~3.3 eV and exciton energy of 60 meV. It is also cheap, environmentally-friendly and non-toxic. Hence, ZnO nano arrays are a promising materials for applications in both light emitting diodes and highly structured solar cells.
