Electrospray Deposition

This collaborative project with Prof. Dr. R. Schlaf from the University of South Florida will leverage the technique of electrospray deposition and x-ray absorption spectroscopy on liquid samples. This combination will enable the direct and 'live' in-situ investigation of electrochemically governed reaction processes in dynamic solution/gas phase environments as they are encountered in spray processes. Investigations of the molecular interaction during spray processes of three different systems are planed:

  • spray-on semiconductor layers for chalcopyrite solar cells in cooperation with  the ILGAR Group,
  • the solute chemistry of biomedically functional porphyrins, and
  • guest-host molecular systems promising for drug delivery applications.

While having a solid focus on the above mentioned application materials systems, the proposed effort will also contribute significantly to a comprehensive understanding of the electrospray ionization process itself, which is still under considerable debate.
