The 4-th generation light sources demand a low transversal emittance as well as short bunches in insertion devices. By the typical electron beam energy of synchrotron radiation sources of several GeV, effects of synchrotron radiation in bending magnets must be taken into account, coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR) in particular. Modelling of the CSR and space charge effects on the beam transversal and longitudinal emittance must be done.
The work demands understanding of the principles of magnetic optics design and ability to develop own modelling programs.
After successful completion of the Master thesis a follow-up PhD thesis might be possible.
