HZB is planning to setup a photo-electron source (SRF gun) with low emittance at high average current. For these studies we are looking for young scientists with interest in experimental work with particle accelerators to support the setup and commissioning of the SRF gun. The emittance in a SRF gun is dominated by the interplay between the electro magnetic fields the electrons experience after creation.
The solenoid plays together with the RF field of the superconducting cavity an important role to achieve low emittance out of the SRF gun. The aim of the master study is to specifiy the best field profile for low emittance performance. The study consists of numerical and analytical calculations to estimate the effects of the solenoid field on the beam emittance and to find ways to improve this.
