A Pre-Injector Linac for BESSY II

The increasing user demands for constant current (Top-Up operation) and a variety of fill pattern can be achieved by the possibility to inject into single rf-buckets. This requires a LINAC as a pre-accelerator for the booster synchrotron. Work is continuing to complement the microtron by a suitable LINAC within the next two years.

In the first phase both systems (LiNAC and microtron) will co-consist, allowing for a smooth commissioning of the LINAC without sacrificing reliable user operation.This will be guaranteed by keeping the microtron in place.
