FLEX-Upgrade

Major upgrade efforts are currently undertaken to bring the instrumentation suite operated in neutron guide hall I to the highest level of standards. In particular the exchange of the neutron guide system allows for substantial flux gains and optimization of instrument positions. The FLEX upgrade project is dedicated to enhance inelastic neutron scattering opportunities offered within the user program at the BER-II. In future FLEXX will be located on its own dedicated guide at the end of the guide hall further downstream of the cold neutron source. This means that the primary spectrometer of FLEXX will be able to host neutron optics tailored to the particular instrument needs. FLEXX will benefit from an end-of-guide position which will increase the wavelength range and access. In particular FLEXX should be able to reach incident thermal wavelengths down to nominally 1.8 Ǻ.
