Department for Nanometre Optics and Technology
The department for Nanometre Optics and Technology was founded in October 2010 by the merger of the former BESSY Optics Group and the BESSY / AZM - Application Centre for Micro Engineering. We offer internationally acknowledged expertise of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin in design, fabrication and metrology of advanced short-wavelength optics. Our combination of experience, infrastructures and high-level scientific-technological equipment provides ideal conditions for interdisciplinary research in metrology, diffraction physics, surface technology as well as micro and nanostructuring. This allows us to master complex processes, such as developing nanometre optical technologies as well as fabricating and characterising high quality optical components and systems. We cooperate with German, European and international universities and institutes and assist our industrial partners with the implementation of new optical technologies - from the initial design and modeling to rapid prototyping right through to support within the manufacturing process.
