Sample Environments: Neutrons for research on condensed matter
Sample Environment at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin is focused on extreme parameters like ultra-low temperatures or very high magnetic fields, on complex bio-soft-matter and solid state chemistry experiments, combined with a strong user support. Based on a vast variety of equipment most requests of the users can be satisfied. Furthermore, especially for research areas, where no commercial solutions are available, novel parts of SE were developed equipment tailored to the needs of the users. For advanced SE projects both technical and scientific support can be offered. In addition, the expertise of the department Sample Environment is used in the complementary laboratories. With increasing complexity of the neutron experiments combining neutron scattering techniques with complementary in-situ experiments or with in-situ sample preparation, the focus of sample environment shifted away from providing just the standard parameters. Sample Environment became a more important and more complex part of the neutron experiment itself.
