Technical User Support BER II: Neutrons for research on condensed matter

Installation of  a new chopper at the novel time-of-flight spectrometer NEAT

The Technical User Support at BER II is in charge of the mechanical and electronic maintenance of the complex experimental setups for neutron scattering ensuring that they are consistently in an excellent technical condition and that the experiments can be operated with high reliability on a distinguished level, thus being the technical backbone for research by users and staff. During beamtime the service groups offer extensive technical support for the neutron user programme. Moreover, so far they assisted in the development of new instruments and still contribute to the improvement of existing experimental setups by providing on-site technical advice and answers to the instrument scientists. They play a central role during the resulting remodelling and commissioning. This came in effect in particular in the case of  the large-scale projects High Field Magnet and Time-of-flight spectrometer NEAT. In view of the upcoming final shut-down of the reactor the service groups began with the preparation and execution of a careful disassembling of instruments for their future usage at other neutron scattering facilities.
