The Institute SRF - Science and Technology
Campus Adlershof

is looking for

a Postdoctoral Scientist (f/m) for Superconducting RF Cavity Development.

Payment according to the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD).
The Employment contract is limited to 3 years.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH (HZB) operates one of the world’s most advanced Synchrotron Light Sources (BESSY II) in the VUV to soft x-ray range.  With its accelerator staff of about 100, HZB strives to continuously improve its existing accelerators, and to develop novel concepts for future applications.

With these goals in mind, HZB has secured funding for the BERLinPro project, a 100-mA, low-emittance Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) designed to develop the technology and expertise required for future high-current CW ERLs. The project is embedded in a framework of international collaborations.  The pre-accelerator consists of an ambitious SRF photoinjector and high-beam-loading SRF booster cavities.  The main linac employs strongly HOM-damped SRF cavities.

Plans call for a rapid expansion of the new project team in a variety of fields.  In this context the SRF Institute of Science and Technology is seeking an excellent candidate for this position.

Assignments:
The successful candidate will be responsible for SRF cavity testing and infrastructure development which shall include installation and commissioning of vertical testing dewars as well as implementation of appropriate cavity testing diagnostics. Examples include Q vs. E measurements, thermometry, second sound quench detection, x-ray energy analysis as well as internal optical inspection of SRF cavities. The candidate will need to write the necessary codes in LabVIEW for all aspects of the data collection associated with the BERLinPro cavity tests. This position involves working in a dynamic team environment and requires flexibility and adaptability.

Requirements:
Candidates must have received a PhD in Physics or a closely related field in the last 5 years and be fluent in English, both written and spoken. Furthermore candidates should have

  • Experience installing and operating cavitiy testing diagnostic systems
  • Experience with RF testing of SRF cavities
  • Experience with LabVIEW programming
  • Experience with cleanroom assembly of SRF cavities

Applicants should send their application quoting reference no. G 2013/4 to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Abteilung Personal und Soziales, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, 14109 Berlin (E-Mail: bewerbung@helmholtz-berlin.de).
