For basic and application-oriented research assignments the HZB also runs in addition to its other experimental facilities a research reactor that operates as a source of neutron beams. Scientists visiting the Berlin Neutron Scattering Centre (BENSC) from all over the world work side by side with their German colleagues on ultra modern experimental setups that make full use of the BER II research reactor (See also research at the HZB). Public interest in the research reactor is shown by the great many questions on the facility’s use and safety. The following pages have been created specifically in answer to these questions.
