Infrastructure Building

The installations and units required for the operation of the magnet will be located in a separate building erected specifically for this purpose. This measure is necessary because of the amount of technical equipment required. This infrastructure building will be situated right next to the neutron guide hall 2 housing the magnet.

Equipment within the infrastructure building includes:

  • the components required for the power supply such as transformers, converters, the compensation system and the high-current bus via which the magnet is supplied with power
  • the components required for water-cooling the resistive coil such as pumps, heat exchangers, water treatment facilities and water chillers as well as cooling towers (on the roof) and a multitude of pipes
  • the refrigerator supplying the super-conductive coil with cryogenic helium.

Moreover, the infrastructure building will also house the assembly hall for the magnet where the final assembly and the commissioning of the magnet as well as future maintenance work will be carried out.
