Carbon materials for electrochemical storage

2D carbon-containing materials, in particular transition metal carbides, also called MXenes, are opening new avenues in the development of supercapacitors with high energy density. We are developing new methods to probe the electronic structure of 2D carbon materials in operando during electrochemical cycling. This approach may provide new insights into their dis-/charging mechanism, for example by determining the oxidation state of Ti atoms during dis-/charging.
