Our research investigates the fundamental speed limit for manipulating magnetic bits.
We use synchrotron radiation to gain insight into microscopic mechanisms that govern the
interaction of electrons, spin, and atomic lattice.
In a stroboscopic pump-probe experiment the dynamical processes are investigated on time
scales ranging from femtoseconds to nanoseconds.
In our first experiment with the femtoslicing source we measured the ultrafast response of a
magnetic nickel film.
