The new RIXS spectrometer during off-line commissioning.

At the new beamline UE49-SGM of BESSY II a dedicated station for Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) and Coherent X-ray Scattering (CXS) is presently being commissioned. The beam line provides photons in the soft x-ray energy range between 90 – 1200 eV of variable polarization: linear and circular. For the RIXS experiments two experimental stations are under construction, allowing studies on solid samples under UHV and cryogenic conditions and studies of liquid and gas phases under ambient conditions. The RIXS spectrometer can be either operated in the high-resolution mode, reaching a combined resolving power of higher than 5000, or in a high-transmission mode. Starting 2013, this new facility will provide users from a broad scientific background a new opportunity for world-class science at HZB.
