Neutron tomography

Trapped magnetic flux increases the dynamic losses in any SRF cavity. With the installation of a proper magnetic shielding and a carefully chosen cooldown procedure, the amount of ambient flux can be minimized. In order to understand the dynamics of flux trapping and release, several studies using neutrons as imaging.

Our studies indicate that trapped magnetic flux is the major contribution to the residual surface resistance of SRF cavities which increases their dynamic losses and hence limits their performance. We collaborate with the G-TOMO research group for investigation of the flux trapping dynamics in niobium.
