The equipment required for the operation of the magnet is located in a separate building erected specifically for this purpose. This measure is necessary because of the amount of technical equipment required. This infrastructure building is situated right next to Neutron Guide Hall 2 housing the magnet.
Equipment within the infrastructure building includes:
- the components required for the power supply, such as transformers, converters, the regulation system, and the high-current bus that supplies the magnet with power;
- the components required for water-cooling the resistive coil such as pumps, heat exchangers, water treatment facilities, and water chillers as well as cooling towers (on the roof) and a multitude of pipes;
- the helium refrigerator supplying the super-conducting coil with cryogenic helium.
Moreover, the infrastructure building also houses the assembly hall where the final assembly and the commissioning of the magnet as well as future maintenance work will be carried out.
