Prototypes for novel Solar Energy Converters (SP 5)

The activities in subproject 5 “Prototypes for new solar energy converters” include:

To develop laboratory scale integrated devices for solar energy conversion, consisting of Perovskite/Silicon tandem photovoltaic cells combined with electrolysers using non-noble metal catalysts with current density exceeding 14 mA/cm² at 1.6 V.

To develop contacting and encapsulation technologies for Perovskite/Silicon tandem solar cells to ensure a reliable solar energy conversion service life.

To conduct techno-socio and economic studies coupled with life cycle analysis of the integrated device. These cover the possible replacement of lead in the photovoltaic cells and estimates of the levelised cost of electricity and solar generated fuel (e.g. hydrogen).
