A high ranked Chinese delegation led by Mr. Yin, Vice Mayor of Beijing, visited HZB in Adlershof

On 11 April 2018, the Vice Mayor of Beijing, the Minister Counsellor and the Secretary-General of the Chinese Embassy in Germany paid a visit to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB). The delegation came to learn more about the research topics, infrastructures and user service at HZB. The plan is to establish Beijing as one of three major national innovation centres with large-scale facilities for the international user community.

The Chinese delegation met with HZB management, user coordination and leading scientists from the fields of energy and accelerator physics as an opportunity to exchange knowledge. Together, the participants visited the energy research laboratory EMIL and the experimental hall of BESSY II. In the discussions, it was mutually agreed to intensify the scientific exchange between both sides.

"Beijing is striving to build itself into China’s national technological innovation center, and is now working to develop three science towns. We are eager to learn the successful experiences of other countries, particularly Germany which is renowned for innovation and hi-tech industries,” Vice Mayor Yin Hejung said during his visit. Plans for the Chinese science centres include a new photon source and a high power laser system.

Beijing, Shanghai and Hefei are the three first cities teaming up to build and operate large scale infrastructure. "For sure, the city Beijing, will be in the future strategic partner for Helmholtz,” asserts Dr. Hong He, Head of the Helmholtz Office in China.
