Abstract:
Bifacial and multi-junction solar cells are two approaches to increase the power output of market-dominating silicon solar cells. In this work we investigate how the power output of perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells depends on the top-cell bandgap by modeling monofacial and bifacial operation considering the effect of luminescent coupling. Operating a bifacial tandem in realistic illumination scenarios shifts the optimal perovskite bandgap by around −0.1 eV. Luminescent coupling can further reduce the impact of below optimum top cell bandgaps. Considering both effects may change the targeted bandgap of of optimal perovskite materials for tandem solar cells.
