The International Society for Sample Environment (ISSE) invites students, postdocs, technicians and engineers to participate at the 3rd  ISSE Training School in Berlin from Sunday, Oct. 27th to Friday, Nov. 1st, 2019.

The ERL'19 workshop is the eighth in the series of biannual international workshops covering accelerator physics and technology of Energy Recovery Linacs. The workshop will serve as a forum for scientists and engineers from around the world to review the latest developments in ERL physics, technology and applications, to exchange ideas and discuss.

Welcome to the HZB Photon School 2019, to be held in the Wilhelm-Conrad-Röntgen-Campus (Berlin-Adlershof) from 11th to 22nd March 2019.


This school is primarily aimed at master's students and early stage researchers in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, life or environmental sciences. Students will be introduced to synchrotron and laboratory-based


The two-week program consists of basic and specialized lectures including exercises, given by experienced teachers who are HZB scientists or BESSY II super-users from our partner universities and research centers. The second week is dedicated to hands-on training at several BESSY II experimental stations and X-ray laboratories . Participants will get a vivid experience by joining up to two experiments to work in small groups. The second week's activities will teach participants how to collect, analyze, interpret and present own data amongst peers and specialists.

Inauguration of the Undulator Beamline of the Russian-German Laboratory at BESSY II
Accompanied by a workshop on Spin-resolved Photoemission and Electronic Structure of Quantum and Energy Materials


On 28 Oct 2019, in the morning we will inaugurate the new RGBL2 undulator beamline with permanent end station for spin- and angle-resolved photoemission.


Subsequently, we will highlight the scientific opportunities with a workshop on "Spin-resolved photoemission and electronic structure of quantum and energy materials”. The workshop will start around noon on 28 Oct and end with a dinner and poster session on 29 Oct.
