Events (with participation of external organizers)

What is ultraviolet radiation? What is X-rays used for? And what is radioactivity again? These questions are on the curriculum in physics lessons, but vivid experiments on these topics are rare. The Röntgenmobil offers such experiments to school classes in March in the HZB school lab (book dates in advance!). All interested parties are invited to attend on 12 March.

Welcome to the HZB Photon School 2020, to be held in the Wilhelm-Conrad-Röntgen-Campus (Berlin-Adlershof) from 9th to 20th March, 2020.

This school is primarily aimed at master students and early stage researchers in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, life or environmental sciences. Students will be introduced to synchrotron and laboratory-based

The two-week program consists of basic and specialized lectures including exercises, given by experienced teachers , who are HZB scientists or BESSY II super-users from our partner universities and research centers. The second week is dedicated to hands-on training at several BESSY II experimental stations and X-ray laboratories . Participants will get a vivid experience by joining up to two experiments to work in small groups. The second week's activities will teach participants how to collect, analyze, interpret and present own data amongst peers and specialists.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Berlin!

Prof. Dr. Alexander Föhlisch
Head of Institute FG-ISRR

This year's Young and Senior Investigators Exchange Workshop takes place from March 22-27, 2020, at Brauhaus Wittenberg, Wittenberg, Germany.  The 2020  workshop focuses on both experimental and theoretical complexities: Adding the dimension of time to the selectivity of X-rays is bringing new impetus to many longstanding scientific questions.
