Servers with Linux for interactive usage

You may use the central Linux servers with your personal HZB-ID. You should use it for interactive calculations with larger resource requirements. For non-interactive calculations, you should use the HPC-cluster dirac.

Access

From all computers in our intranet you can access the Linux servers with Secure Shell ssh . Computers running Linux or MacOS will get a graphical  X environment directly. For Windows systems please use VNC

Available Directories

At all servers the network directories

  • /net/home with the home directories (with backup)
  • /net/group with the group directories
  • /mnt/fhgfs with the fast scratch file system of the HPC cluster dirac (at dinux6, dinux7 and dinux8 only)
  • /chmi/hostname with the local /hmi directories on any Linux computer in the intranet by NFS
  • /net/pub and /net/usr with the centrally installed software
  • /net/licensed with the centrally installed non-free software
  • /net/temp with the central clipboard
  • /net/hpc-home with the local home directories /home from dirac

are usable.

Local directories below /hmi may be used on each server. A good place for I/O intensive jobs, but without any backup.

Servers

Five servers for  64 bit  and 32 bit Linux jobs are available.
Please prefer dinux9 for new developments.  If you want to test software before running it on  dirac, you should use dinux7.
