Default software Linux server

We install Linux systems in their respective minimal version by default. Since these can differ from distribution to distribution, the software we subsequently install is matched to the corresponding environment.

For RedHat systems, the following packages are installed:

  • Dnf-automatic: for automatic security updates

  • Epel-release: extra packages for Enterprise Linux
  • Htop: process monitoring
  • Lsscsi: helps with information about the SCSI controller
  • Man-pages: provides help for the commands
  • Mc: file management tool
  • nagios-plugins: plugin for monitoring
  • nagios-plugins-procs: plugin for monitoring
  • nagios-plugins-users: plugin for monitoring
  • nagios-plugins-swap: plugin for monitoring
  • nagios-plugins-load: plugin for monitoring
  • nagios-plugins-disk: plugin for monitoring
  • Nano: editor
  • Net-tools: helpful for maintenance
  • Nmap: portscanner
  • nrpe: for monitoring service
  • openldap-client, nss-pam-ldapd, sssd and sssd-tools: for authentication via our AD
  • openssh: enables SSH connections
  • Openvm-tools: improves integration in ESX
  • Parted: helps with partitioning and expanding volumes of lvm
  • Postfix: server can send mails
  • Vim: editor
  • Wget: enables file downloads from a web server via terminal
  • Yum-utils: collection of tools and programs to manage yum repositories
