31st Berlin School on Neutron Scattering
11-19 March 2010
Lise Meitner Campus / Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie
A Practical Introduction to Neutron Scattering
This school is primarily aimed at advanced students who have completed their undergraduate studies or Vordiplom in physical, engineering and life sciences, and early stage researchers, e.g. PhD students and postdocs. Three days of lectures on the principles of neutron scattering are followed by over 20 hours of hands-on experiments at various neutron scattering instruments to provide students with practical experience of essential methods and techniques. The school is part of the curriculum of the Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences at the Technical University Berlin.
Lectures include
- Introduction to fundamentals of neutron techniques
- Applications of neutrons to biology, chemistry, physics, material sciences, engineering
Hands-on Experimental Training in
- Triple-Axis Spectroscopy
- Powder Diffraction
- Spin-Echo-Spectroscopy
- Small Angle Neuton Scattering
- Time-of-Flight Spectroscopy
- Reflectometry
- Tomography
