QUASAR tool for scientific data analysis

Modern spectroscopic techniques yield large amounts of raw data. This makes data processing often challenging. The open-source project Quasar provides powerful and easy to use components for spectral data analysis, significantly simplifying and accelerating data mining. This empowers researchers to gain better insight to their data through interactive data treatment and visualisation, powerful machine learning methods and combining different datasets in easy-to-understand visual workflows.

The Infrared beamline at BESSY II and The School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in collaboration with SOLEIL Synchrotron and Ljubljana University are organising a 3-day hands-on data analysis workshop on the Quasar software. Quasar will be demonstrated using tutorials and examples on real-life IR and Raman spectroscopy and imaging datasets, although the software is capable of processing any spectroscopic data. We encourage participants to bring own data.

Data analysis workshop with QUASAR

This workshop will provide a hands-on training on the Quasar software through tutorials based on IR spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging data as well as other real-life spectroscopic data, including participants own data.

The training program starts from spectral preprocessing techniques including baseline correction, normalisation, differentiation and smoothing, and expanding towards multivariant analysis techniques such as Principal Component Analysis, Machine Learning, Cluster analysis. After the course, the participants would be able to perform extensive data analysis using Quasar software starting from the import to classification of large spectral datasets and visualisation of the results.

The participants will acquire competences that can be applied to all kinds of spectroscopic data in numerous scientific fields such as biomedicine, energy and environmental research or cultural heritage.

Hotel

For participants of the quasar workshop, Dorint Hotel Adlershof offers a special fare of 162€ including breakfast (per person and per night). Please contact us for booking information: susann.badran@helmholtz-berlin.de.
