Open Standards for Writing and Citing - how SciFlow works together with reference managers and publishing toolswith Ph.D. Elisa Bastianello, Digital Publications Manager at Max Plank Institute of Art History
Next-generation digital Publishing goes beyond PDF ebooks. Texts are treated like a semantic model consisting of references inside and outside the publications. Citations, annotations, personas, and places are examples to put the publications into a broader context. Single-Source Publishing workflows based on XML build the foundation for distributing those texts in various formats and keeping references intact and dynamic.
Open standards in writing and publishing and tools based on standards simplify those workflows. For disciplines and types of publications, various standards exist. One of the essential writing tasks in every field is efficiently handling references in the text. Writing scientific texts with better quality and less effort can be achieved if authors utilize a text editor suited for academic needs and a reference manager. Combining these two tools will be the topic of this master class.
The master class will provide examples of how SciFlow, Zotero, and other reference managers use common open standards efficiently and profitably.

HMC FAIR Friday will feature talks by high-ranking national and international speakers who will bring all participants (even) closer to the world of FAIR data, deepen individual aspects and stimulate discussions.
The digital world forgets nothing, a common saying claims. However, anyone who has ever tried to find data that is only a few years old on the global web and then reuse it with up-to-date software knows that digital information can very well get lost. To ensure that this does not happen to valuable research data, numerous players in science are currently working on making this data as FAIR as possible - findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

Without doubt you will agree with us that the development and deployment of novel energy concept addressing both environmental as well as energy independence concerns is perhaps the largest challenge of chemical industry in the 21st century. As you know from your own experience these issues are subject to discussion of the community for several years now, although the recent Covid-19 pandemic which prevented face to face meeting for the past two years subdued somewhat the information exchange of the topic. The war in Ukraine drastically calls for an even accelerated transformation of our energy system including aspects of energy security.
Nevertheless, the field of catalysis-supported energy concepts never lost its importance and urgency. The Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max-Planck Society and the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry have worked together on these concepts for a long time. With the support of the new research platform CatLab, we are in a position to facilitate the discussions in the community by organizing the first international conference “Challenges on renewable energy storage”. The conference aims at bringing together leaders of the field in catalysis, electrocatalysis and their technological implementation, fostering the exchange of views on the most recent development and renewing the necessary interdisciplinary networks broken by the pandemic.
The conference will take place under personal auspices of Mrs. Helena Langšádlová, the Minister of Science, Research and Innovation of the Czech Republic and is listed in the official programme of the Czech presidency to the Council of EU. Consequently, the European funding agencies are expected to be heavily represented along with other important stakeholders.

Vom 4. bis 11. September informiert die Quantsol Summer School 2022 über Grundlagen der solaren Energieumwandlung.
Die International Summer School on Photovoltaics and New Concepts of Quantum Solar Energy Conversion (Quantsol) findet im September 2022 in Hirschegg, Kleinwalsertal, Österreich statt. Bewerbungen können bis zum 7. Juni 2022 eingereicht werden. Organisiert wird die Schule vom Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin und der Technischen Universität Ilmenau.
Die eingeladenen Referenten, allesamt international anerkannte Wissenschaftler aus weltweit führenden Institutionen, werden in ihren Vorträgen die grundlegenden Prinzipien der Umwandlung von Sonnenenergie in chemische und elektrische Energie sowie die physikalischen und technischen Herausforderungen ihrer technologischen Umsetzung behandeln. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der solarspezifischen Materialwissenschaft und deren Charakterisierung. Darüber hinaus bietet die Schule praktische Übungen zum Bau einer eigenen Solarzelle sowie eine Einführung in die Solarzellensimulation.

AI and neuroscience have closely interacted and inspired each other since the beginning of AI. With the fast developments in deep learning over the last decade, AI has had a substantial impact on many applications in science and society. Advances in efficient computing hardware, which are in turn inspired by insights from neuroscience will be instrumental in moving AI beyond narrow applications. This conference aims to bring together researchers from across AI, neuroscience, and computing hardware to renew collaborations, explore synergistic opportunities and transfer ideas from neural to artificial systems and back again.
