Information for Grant Recipients
Accommodation in Dresden
You will be sharing a double room with another student at the AO Hotel & Hostel Dresden. Any further details may be found at http://www.aohostels.com/en/dresden/hotel-dresden/ . Your room is booked from the 16th to the 20th of September.
There will be free bus transfers between Berlin Tegel airport (TXL) and the hotels in Dresden on Wednesday the 16th of September. Please indicate on your registration form whether you would like to use the free transport to Dresden! On the 20th of September there will be a shuttle bus from the Dresden tutorial site back to the conference venue in Berlin.
Accommodation in Berlin
A room has been booked on board the Eastern Comfort Hostel Boat between the 20th and 26th of September. It is floating on the Spree River anchored near a remnant of the Berlin wall the East side gallery. More information may be found at http://www.eastern-comfort.com/.
For the daily travel between the hostel boat and the conference center you will be supplied with a ticket for the Berlin public transport system. After validating your ticket at the S-Bahn or subway train station you may use it for one week as often as you like. It is valid for the inner part of the city, i.e. the sectors A and B on the transit network map. It covers all kind of public transport such as underground railway, S-Bahn train, tram and busses of the BVG.
Please note: Before using your public transport ticket, you need to validate it by inserting it into one of the yellow (BVG) or red (S-Bahn) metal boxes!
Directions to the Conference Venue/ dbb Forum Berlin
Walk to the Ostbahnhof or Warschauer Strasse S-Bahn train station (ca. 10 min) and take any S-Bahn with directions Spandau, Westkreuz, Charlottenburg or Potsdam via Friedrichstrasse (S5, S7, S9, S75). At Friedrichstrasse change to the underground railway line U6 in the direction of Alt-Mariendorf. Get off the U6 at the station Französische Strasse. The dbb forum is about 50 m North-West of the underground station.
Alternatively you can walk to the underground railway station Warschauer Strasse and take the U1 to Uhlandstrasse. At Hallesches Tor change for the U6 towards Alt-Tegel. Get off the U6 at Französische Strasse.
Departure
By airplane from Tegel: Take the S-Bahn to Alexanderplatz and change to the TXL Bus to Tegel airport. Your ticket is also valid for this bus.
By airplane from Schönefeld: You need to buy an extension ticket (Anschlussfahrschein) to the sector C which is about 1,40 €. It can be bought at any ticket machine.
An S-Bahn going directly to Schönefeld airport is line S9.
