Since 7 January 2026, the HZB site in Wannsee has once again been supplied with electricity by the grid operator. The site had also been affected since Saturday morning (3 January) by the widespread power outage in southwest Berlin. Over the coming days, the technical facilities and laboratories at the Wannsee campus will be inspected and gradually brought back into operation. For this reason, the site will only be accessible to a limited extent until Monday, 12 January. We ask for your understanding.

The short-term disruption to our IT systems, caused by the failure of a power generator, was also resolved yesterday (7 January). The operation of safety-relevant functions and services at the Wannsee site, including those required for the post-operation of the former research reactor BER II (in operation until the end of 2019) and other facilities, was not affected. These systems were continuously and safely supplied via separate emergency power generators.

We would like to thank all emergency services and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past few days and made this major collective effort possible.
