Mission and Guiding Principles
We strive to achieve a climate neutral society through science and innovation. This is why we drive materials discovery, create new sustainable technologies and empower the research community in realising this goal.
In pursuing our mission, we take responsibility in our daily work for our ecological footprint.

Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres
German research excellence: Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres
The 18 centres of the Helmholtz Association address major and pressing issues in science, industry and society.
All centres conduct research on behalf of the state and society. They seek answers to the big questions of our time: What resources will we use to generate energy in the future? How can we make mobility more climate-friendly? What therapies will help to cure diseases that were previously incurable? The aim is to secure the basis of human life in the long term and to develop technologies for a competitive economy.
Helmholtz's potential lies in its outstanding scientists: They work in the association's 18 research centres, use its globally unique research infrastructures and benefit from modern research management. The centres combine their strengths in six research fields: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Information, Aeronautics, Space and Transport, and Matter.
