AI and Biomolecular Structures

The Vanguard of Structural Biology

We want to find out what biological molecules look like. In 3D and in movement. To this end, we do not only conduct our own experiments, but we also develop software and methods to work on the experimental data produced by synchrotrons such as BESSY, enabling cutting-edge structural biology and biophysics.

Team Andrea Thorn

The Coronavirus Structural Task Force at the 2025 symposium "Binding Matters" in Hamburg, hosted by Thorn Lab.

The department “AI and Biomolecular Structures” (Thorn Lab) researches molecular structures from living organisms, for example from fungi or the virus SARS-CoV-2, with the goal to develop new methods of structure solution and evaluation. With this, we are aiming to improve the available data for scientists in various fields of research. As a team of structural biology method developers as well as expert users, we seek to get every last bit of information from the data.
