Bernd Stannowski is Professor at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin

Prof. Dr. Bernd Stannowski has received and accepted a call for a joint S-Professorship for "Photovoltaics" at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin. The physicist heads the working group "Silicon Photovoltaics" at the Competence Center Thin Film and Nanotechnology for Photovoltaics Berlin (PVcomB) of the HZB.

Bernd Stannowski has been teaching since the winter semester 2018/19 in the course of studies "Physical Technology" in Faculty 2 "Mathematical Physics and Chemistry" at the Beuth University. Currently he teaches "Semiconductor Physics" and "Thermodynamics"; a lecture on "PV/Regenerative Energy" is planned. The call was made on 18 March 2019.

With his research group at PVcomB Bernd Stannowski develops and optimizes materials and manufacturing processes for silicon solar cells and thin film technologies - with a focus on industrial applications. The focal points of his working group include silicon heterojunction solar cells, which are used as efficient bottom cells for silicon perovskite tandem solar cells.

Bernd Stannowski has been working at the PVcomB of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin since October 2010. Before moving to research, he worked for 8 years in the PV industry and, among others, headed the process development at a thin-film photovoltaic manufacturer. He studied physics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the RWTH Aachen. Then he completed his doctorate at the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, where he also worked as a postdoc researcher.

    On 1 July 2024, 18 summer students from 15 nations started their work at HZB. Until 23 August, they will be supervised in various research teams and take on their own small project. For many students, this is their first contact with research.

    After around four years of renovation, photovoltaics research groups moved into their offices in Kekuléstraße on 20 June 2024. With the reopening, the building has also been given a new name that makes the research more visible: it is now called HySPRINT Photovoltaics Lab.
