Abstract:
The altermagnetic candidate MnF2 has been predicted to exhibit a net magnetization at its (110) surface, but this prediction has not yet been tested experimentally. In this report, we present preliminary results from X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) measurements performed on MnF2 (110) thin films. The XMCD spectra were recorded at different angles of incidence, and a clear sign reversal under opposite field cooling at grazing incidence indicates the presence of an in-plane net magnetization, highlighting MnF2 potential for studying the relationship between surface magnetism and altermagnetic order.
