Institute Solar Fuels

Outdoor Testing

The outdoor laboratory is intended to enable experimental investigations under real environmental conditions, bridging the gap between controlled laboratory studies and practical applications. Its objective is to generate robust, scalable, and application-oriented insights, particularly in the fields of electrochemical processes, material behavior, as well as sensing and analytical techniques.

The concept is based on a modular infrastructure that can be flexibly adapted to different experimental requirements. In addition to technical equipment, aspects such as utilities (power, water, data), safety, and expandability are systematically addressed. The outdoor laboratory is designed to serve as a platform for research, development, and demonstration, supporting both internal projects and external collaborations.

By combining real-world environmental conditions with targeted measurement technologies, the laboratory enables realistic evaluation of systems and components. This significantly contributes to technology validation and accelerates the transfer into practical applications.

The lab was designated as the Solar Outdoor Laboratory for Chemical Production or in short SOL-CHEM.
